Created for the soon-to-be hubby, this mask was made using a fine light grey cotton with the word "Mr." stitched in black embroidery thread. Please note: this mask features four black elastic ties along the top and bottom for an adjustable fit.
Please note: this is not a PPE approved face mask. It is meant to be a mask cover and has not been scientifically tested to discover how much filtration it provides. It should be worn as a homemade cloth mask and should not be worn as a true PPE mask in hospital settings. however it is not a fabric masks (even one such as this which feature medical fabric along the inside) are meant to be worn over another face mask. As the CDC has written, plain fabric face masks are not 100% effective...but hospitals are urging staff to wear anything that they can at this time either over their N-95 mask or on it's own, which is what this mask was created for.
To quote the CDC:
"In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (ex: bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that cover the entire front and sides of the face."
Note: while these masks are washable, we do not recommend washing them on a normal washing cycle as it will shred the delicate dupion silk and french lace along the sides. Please hand wash with a gentle soap or wash on delicate.
and lastly, a side note about integrity: we have calculated the cost of this mask to cover the cost of materials and time to create only. That is to say, this is a not-for-profit mask. La Gartier does not stand to gain any revenue from the sale of these masks. We are creating them in an effort to be of assistance to the true #AngelWorkers of our country.
