  • Custom Garter Spotlight: La Gartier Bride Brittney Horton's Garter Made From Her Mother's Wedding Gown

Creating a wedding garter using a bride's mothers' wedding gown is a beautiful thing. It is a certain type of custom garter that we have been making for brides for years. In fact, we are becoming known for "repurposed" customizations of this kind and they are always an absolute honor to be asked to do so naturally I was taken aback when La Gartier bride Brittney Horton asked me to create a garter for her using her mother's wedding gown that was hand-sewn by her grandmother.  Let me just repeat that in case the utter specialness of it can double-whammy: Brittney's mother's gown was created by Brittney's grandmother. And not only that but some of the sewing on the gown was done by hand, meaning that Brittney's grandmother most likely spent countless night with a needle and thread creating her daughter's gown.  When Brittney asked me if she could sent me parts of the gown to transform into a wedding garter for her wedding, I couldn't say YES quickly enough. There was only one thing left to do after Brittney shipped me the fabric from her mother's gown: that is, we needed to make sure that her garter contained at least 1 powerful element that spoke directly to her relationship story. The ah-ha moment came when Brittney told me that her fiancé popped the question at Disneyworld...and that, furthermore, they had chosen a Disney resort in Hawaii as the location of their wedding! When she told me this, it became apparent very quickly that we needed to find a way to incorporate a Disney element into her garter as her small but powerful statement pendant. Below are final photos of her garters. This personalized wedding garter set is so beautiful because it perfectly juxtaposes heavy heirloom significance (with the grandmother/mother fabric) with the fun/cute/playful Disney element that almost every bride can relate to. Dear Brittney: I don't know who said that Disney-themed wedding accessories weren't chic. They apparently just didn't have the right materials.

  • My Favorite Color is Easter.

I have a hard time putting into words just how much I love Easter. I mean seriously, what other holiday celebrates adorable baby animals, features a purely-pastel color pallet, and encourages us to dye our food? If there is such thing as a spirit holiday, Easter is mine. This Easter, I decided to celebrate this unbelievably beautiful holiday by creating glitterized Easter eggs. (Pretty sure I just made up a word there. Don't tell anyone.)  "Glitterized" Easter eggs are better than dyed Easter eggs for two reasons:
    1. they are original
    2. they sparkle
Some might argue that creating them is an absolute mess, and an utter waste of time but I would argue that dyed Easter eggs are just plain boring. Seriously, I was bored of them in 1993 and I was like ten then.  (Btw-total side note: I also tried to inject pink food coloring into the yolk of my egg before hard boiling them simply to see if I could get a "pink on the outside, pink on the inside" egg but it turned into a total mess so I gave up. BUT I am determined to get it right next year.) But I diverge from my point. What I am trying to say is that anything-but-dyed Easter eggs should totally be a thing, which they might already be according to my good friend Maggie. I'm not sure. I honestly haven't googled it. We have been too busy making wedding garters and fun glitter egg videos like the one below!!! Happy Easter everyone!!! And if you love the garter I am wearing in this video, then you can click here to see it in our online shop!
  • How To Measure For Your Wedding Garter

If I had a penny for every time someone asked me how to measure for a wedding garter, I would be purchase something similar to the Titanic Diamond in order to make the most luxurious wedding garter ever created. It's a valid question because we so rarely ever have an occasion to measure our thigh. I mean, seriously, how many other upper-leg accessories have you worn in your life? So, without further adieu, below are my step-by-step instructions regarding how to measure your leg for your wedding garter, complete with a pretty visual guide.

how to measure for a wedding garter

First of all, I should tell you that there is no official rule for which leg you should pick for your garter. That is, you can wear it on whichever leg feels right to you. Personally, I like my left but perhaps it is because I am right-handed?? Who knows. What matters most is that you are comfortable, so pick whichever leg you want.
Then, take a fabric measuring tape (the cheap sewing kind that you can buy at the grocery store are fantastic) and measure about five to six inches from the top of your knee cap. This usually ends up being about mid-thigh.
Note: Don't pull the tape in too tight lest your measurement be smaller than it actually is. And don't leave it too loose either, or your measurement be too large. Wrap the tape so that it perfectly flush to your skin without any intense pulling or drooping.
Next: round up or down to the nearest whole inch. (No need to send us fractions ladies. The nearest whole inch will do just fine. You can thank the elastic on your garter for that one.)
And that's it! Once you have your measurement, please leave it in the "notes" section of your check out or email it to us at!
I know it's a hassle, but sending us your leg measurement ensures a perfect fit, which I have a feeling that you want. With garters this pretty and pricey, we definitely don't mind going the extra mile to custom make your garter to fit your leg as long as you don't mind taking the time to measure. Happy La Gartier everyone!

  • Sparkly Garters and Pink Smoke for Valentine's Day

Earlier this month, I came across the a shop online called PoofThereItIsReveals that sells all kinds of amazing colored smoke fountains. The more I looked at the photos, the more I wanted to know what it was like to set one off and see the smoke float all around me. I imagined it would be a little bit like fireworks, but prettier. Then, when I noticed that they had an entire section for pink smoke items, I was sold. What was even better is that I didn't have any creative social media posts planned for Valentine's Day at that time, so it was a win win. I knew immediately what I wanted to do on Valentine's Day. Hit "play" on the video below to see what it is like to set a pink smoke bomb on fire. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Btw- if you love the garter I am wearing in this video, you can make it your own by clicking here.)
